What is the YNOT Cam Awards?
The YNOT Cam Awards started in 2018 and is an evening-long event created to recognize the top women and men who perform in the ‘interactive’ sector of the adult entertainment industry. The event will take place on August 7, 2019 at the historic Avalon Hollywood, located across from the Capitol Records building, less than a block from the intersection of Hollywood & Vine.
The YNOT Cam Awards will kick off with a Red Carpet event on Vine Street in front of the Avalon, before moving indoors for dinner and a pre-show entertainment lineup. The awards show itself follows, and hosted by adult webcam star Anna Bell Peaks with co-host Jay Kopita from YNOT. The evening will wrap up with an after-party at Bardot, the stylish nightclub that’s part of the Avalon building.
While the event itself is open only to industry executives, performers and press, the Red Carpet and awards show portions of the evening will be streamed live online for fans around the world. There are 100+ performers nominated for awards in 25 different categories of achievement. The event has wide participation from the leading companies in the adult interactive space, making it a truly representative celebration of this growing and exciting industry.
New for 2019, YNOT will also be producing the #Cammunity model summit, which will take place at the W Hollywood Hotel from August 5th through August 7th, leading up to the YNOT Cam Awards on the 7th. Models, cam executives and industry professionals from the United States, Europe and South America will participate in this all-new summit designed to help adult interactive models achieve higher levels of success in the adult industry.
Fans are not allowed to attend either #Cammunity or The YNOT Cam Awards.
What is adult interactive?
While traditional adult entertainment produces video recordings featuring performers who are paid to act out the creative vision of directors and producers, the adult interactive space connects performers directly with fans. It lets performers generate their own revenue streams instead of relying on negotiated paydays with video production companies, and perhaps equally important it gives performers full creative control.
The biggest example of adult interactive entertainment is the live webcam sector. The companies from this popular space produce software services that allow adult performers to broadcast live shows online, to interact with fans, and to monetize these interactions and performances. They also market and promote their networks in order to drive fans to the performers. These services return power back to performers who choose their own work hours, their own prices and their own creative direction. Performers are not pressured by their live webcam networks (or even asked) to perform acts they are not comfortable with performing, and they typically broadcast from either professional studios or the safety and comfort of their own homes.
Another big example of the rise of adult interactive entertainment is the increasing popularity of custom clips stores. These websites offer software-as-a-service that lets performers market their own custom video clips directly to their fans. While clips stores are pre-recorded video entertainment, they eliminate the middle man and let performers create their own videos and sell them directly to their fans. As with live cams, this approach also returns power to performers, who again set their own work hours and their own creative direction. Many custom clips artists take requests directly from their fans and create personalized clips for specific individuals. Fans interact directly with clips artists, forming relationships and even bonds with performers.
Why does this matter?
The rise of the Internet has been incredibly disruptive to traditional forms of media. Newspapers, music labels, movie studios, and even adult video stars have been forced to adapt to severe changes in how business is conducted. All of these groups have been harmed by the free availability online of their hard work.
Adult interactive is a direct response to the proliferation of online piracy, since direct and personal interaction with fans is not an experience that can be stolen and shared without the agreement of the artist.
And while adult interactive was created to fill certain commercial needs, the technology has proven to be transformative from a social perspective as well. In a time when so many are re-evaluating the treatment of women, adult interactive has shifted power back to the women who perform in the adult entertainment industry. Men too in all sectors of the entertainment business have been vulnerable to abuse. Putting performers in charge of their own creative choices, and giving them the power to produce their own income, is a huge step in a positive direction.
Fans too benefit from adult interactive in profound ways. Many fans crave that feeling of intimacy with a person they find attractive, a social connection that’s more than just visual stimulation. Interactive fans routinely express their gratitude to performers, and often consider them to be friends. That kind of connection just isn’t possible with other forms of entertainment, and it’s made a reality by the rise of interactive software from the adult entertainment sector, an industry that’s no stranger to driving the popular use of brand new technologies.
Adult interactive is powering the modern adult entertainment industry and it’s only going to expand. Performers of diverse backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, body types and ages are finding success as live cam performers and custom clips artists. This is a story worth talking about for business and commerce reasons, for the sake of evaluating trends in entertainment, but also for its social implications as the Internet continues to change our culture in new and profound ways.
